The magic of people and places

In Miami, there’s no shortness of coffee shops. You have the big chains, mom and pop shops, boutiques; for every style and personality you have a coffee shop to satisfy you.

I'm fortunate to have a weekly coffee date with my friend (yes, I have face to face time when we talk about our life, dreams and the immortality of the crab.) So I'm very familiar with the places to have coffee in Coral Gables, but there’s one that always takes my breath away: Café Demetrio.

Maybe my journalism sense of smell knew that in the 20s this place used to house the first Coral Gables newspaper. Fast forward to 1997, the husband and wife duo, Demetrio and Vilma, opened this oasis in the heart of The City Beautiful.

Sixteen years ago, when I moved to the city, Café Demetrio welcomed me with open arms and won me over. Its bohemian vibe, filled with culture and history; that terrace lighted for the delight of night owls, their cappuccino and the Mexican Chicken Sandwich. There’s nothing like it or comes close to it.

The cherry on top is Catalina. Her energy, sweetness, her artistry to make coffee and serve others sets the bar to a new high.

If you want to disconnect, travel in time, feel like royalty, have delicious foods and drinks, in the corner of Alhambra and Salzedo, I’m sure Catalina will happily greet you. Cheers!
