Shopping Workout In Miami

Yes, Miami is a famous shopping hub but the purchases I talk about and the ones I dedicate time and effort to are those done in supermarkets. Oh, how fun! Am I the only one who goes on a sort of promotional tour to find the best prices or specific products? I think that I'm not alone and that, in addition to the people I know who shop online, out of masochism or conviction we’re still a large group that keeps the grocery shopping tradition alive.

Depending on my agenda and my illusory weekly menu I do my rounds with mandatory stops at Sedano's, Aldi, Navarro, Martínez, and Publix; but don’t panic, everything has a reason to be.

Ahhh, Sedano's takes me back to the island. Their colors, their smells, the folkloric and picturesque environment enchants me. You’ll get some of the best prices around and always be surprised by that something you didn't know you crave until is in your face. The manager is Puerto Rican, so I there's no shortage of Cameo cookies or Kikuet pizza turnovers, and the lemons at 12 X $ 1 to me they taste even better. And well, my dear Mayte at Sedano's on 48 Ave., and 8th Street is one of the main reasons to visit the grocery store.

Aldi, the German network and cousin of Trader Joe's, is on another level. Its variety of wines and liquors, including a $17 whiskey recently recognized as the best in the world, give the stop a bit more swing.

Navarro is an all-inclusive pharmacy that opens 24 hours and has everything, yes everything. So I always have to take a peak and see with what I stumble upon. (Also, the Original Food Truck is right next to it).

Publix ... "where shopping is a pleasure" is also on the list but here we use moderation because you can easily spend your entire paycheck.

And to finish my tour, Martinez Distributors has all the meats you can think of, the ones you want and the ones you need. Judging by the sizes of its products I see it focused more on a restaurant or large families, but nothing that a Ziploc cannot solve. And do not forget the frozen bread; they are a unique find, and I feel very Zak the Baker when I put them in the oven.

There you have it. If I'm not at home tending to Miss Typos, I'm on tour in Miami searching for the most wanted products, saving a few bucks and figuring out what I'm going to cook and serve, at the table and on my blog.
